NU-FUNK-STEP

I'm not a huge fan of dubstep, while I love the bass and ideas the style gets old quick to me when out on the dance-floor. These cats have slowed down the groove and injected some hip hop swagger into some dubstep, and I dig what they have done. respect....

Keep the funk alive

Sorry, I have not been blogging as much these days. I took on a new job and it now seems like my life is pretty much one big rush. I did however have time to submit the new Neighbour remixes to Kudos whom say the release should be out by May. We also have a record from Mash & Munkee ready, but I'm still waiting on the labels from the Doc, so hopefully he will get them to me soon. On the Baffin Island tip we have a new record from Neighbour and a record from Badboe. All the songs are mastered, I just need to get the copy together and get Marley on the artwork for those. Frank has been busy in the studio working on our live show, and I'm slowly building up our visuals for it.. I'm not a 100% sure which direction to take visually, but I'm working it out bit by bit. I do know we will be using the NUVJ for visuals, and the APC-40 and MPC pads for audio with Ableton. As for new music, it's slow going, but I did manage to get some work done on the Farid remix. Going to zip it up and bring it over to Franks today for further work. Okay, gotta get back to work. I'll try and post up some audio or something meaningful soon. Until then keep the funk alive.

Got Your Number

I have to thank Dj Magneto for turning me unto this song. He does a really cool edit of it on his DJ Wax mix,and I liked it so much that did a low-key version of it for my sets at Sticky Rice. It came out pretty well, and the peeps over at Sticky were feeling it. Here it is in all it's 320 glory.

Sygaire Master of Beats

I have been listening to a lot of Sygaire recently for inspiration, since his beats are always so funky and up-front. Frank and I were discussing how he always manages to make such hard hitting drums, with his use of reverb and effects. Anyway, as I was digging though my hard-drive I found this edit I did a while ago. The Original Dub was cool but had these parts which really chilled the song out IMO, so I looped some bits and made it more B-Boy friendly. Hope you dig it...

Vote 4 All Good Funk Alliance

I hate this self promotion ish more than anyone, but I'm sick and tired of seeing sub-par dj's win that should probably spend a couple of more years in the lab honing the craft. So I'm asking you to please log in and vote for All Good Funk Alliance as one of the best dj's in Washington DC. Please also vote for Fort Knox Five in the band field.

Seriously dudes, practice your beat-matching a bit more and stop it with the constant self promotion. If I catch you train-wrecking it up out at a another gig, I'm going to come up and just press stop on your ish.
