From the second release on Funk Weapons, Hush Puppies really helped us define where we wanted our sound to go. We put the record out in 2002, and distributed it with Downtown 161 whom never paid us by the way. Anyway, we were really trying to push the break beats a bit more and move away from the 4/4 of our earlier releases. I think we even pitched this to a couple of labels only to hear they would rather us do another Sol En La Noche. I have no idea of how well it sold since the distro wouldn't even return our calls, but I do see the vinyl out every once in a while.

The wife and I went out to see Black Swan last night, and we were blown away with it. I really think Darren Aronofsky is one of the best writer / director's out right now. The movie really is an experience beyond just the dialog and images, he somehow takes you into the mind of the lead character and messes with you. So, in honor of such a cool and dark movie I decided to post a darker tune today called "Break Even" from Sketch.

Back in the good old Richmond days my dude Boogle used to have this dope ass remix of "New Jack Hustler", which was a DMC promo and really hard to find. I recently found a copy of the whole EP, and it was refreshing to hear again. David Morales did the remixes and I really think he added a nice thick sound to the remixes. The Sax mix and reprise sounded really dated and corny, but I think the 12" and Stress mixes hold up. Check em out and drop me a note if your feeling the blog. I found this comp called p-plan_presents-may_i_cut_your_voice_vol.1 a while ago from a couple of Polish producers whom took some vocals and mashed them up with some nice funk beats. This Afu-Ra with Big Daddy Kane remix came out pretty nice. I suggest looking it up if you can still find it. I liked this and the Nas remix the most, but the whole comp works well.
